AgentHunter vs Cloudflare & Akamai Bot Management: Agents Aren't Bots

    Key takeaways

    • →Bot managers score fingerprints, rates and challenge results. LLM-driven agents use real browsers, real pacing and solve challenges.
    • →AgentHunter detects agentic intent: the shape of multi-step reasoning, reconnaissance and abuse campaigns.
    • →Mitigation adapts to each campaign instead of a block/allow toggle that attackers learn in minutes.
    • →AgentHunter adds to your CDN instead of replacing it, so you stop paying premium bot tiers for detection that no longer works.

    Bot management solved yesterday's problem

Cloudflare Bot Management and Akamai Bot Manager are mature, well-engineered products. They score traffic using browser fingerprints, TLS signatures, behavioral heuristics and challenge responses, and they work well against scripted credential stuffing and scrapers.

Autonomous adversarial agents break those assumptions. They drive real headless and headed browsers, vary their timing like humans, read pages semantically and change tactics when blocked. In November 2025 Anthropic reported a state-linked campaign in which an AI agent carried out most of the intrusion work on its own, across roughly thirty targets. That's the threat class edge defenses now face.

    Detecting intent, not fingerprints

AgentHunter looks at what a session is trying to achieve. Is it systematically mapping your API surface? Is it testing business logic one step at a time? Is it coordinating with sibling sessions? Agentic campaigns leave a reasoning trail even when every individual request looks human.

    • Campaign-level correlation across IPs, devices and identities
    • Reasoning-pattern detection: planning, probing, adapting
    • Business-logic abuse detection: pricing, inventory, loyalty and account flows
    • Adaptive mitigation: deception, throttling, poisoning and blocking

    Why a toggle loses

A binary block teaches an adaptive agent exactly what to change. AgentHunter chooses a response per campaign, from silent observation to deception to hard blocks, so the attacker's feedback loop breaks.

    Cost and deployment

AgentHunter works alongside your existing CDN and WAF with no integration project. Premium bot tiers are usually billed on request volume, so you pay more as agentic traffic grows, for detection the agents already bypass. AgentHunter is priced for outcomes, not volume.
